What is my writing purpose?

This is the most recent question posted by the website Velvet Verbosity. Since I'm trying to start posting to my blog again, I figured it would be apropos to answer it with a blog post.

I think I actually have a couple different purposes for writing. The first one is to share information, especially with my family. I have my writing blog, my homeschooling blog, and a blog that highlights my digital scrapbooking. It's a great way to attempt to keep people in the loop, even if they don't always get looked at. (I can put the food on the table, but it's up to them to eat, right?)

The other reason, however, is probably the same reason many people read fiction: escapism. By telling my stories on virtual paper, I am able to get away for just a little bit, while at the same time getting things off my mind. Sometimes, once I've written something that's been in my head forever, it finally leaves me alone.
Well, with 8 days 15 hours left until the start of NaNoWriMo, my current project is beginning to take shape. Murphy's Chaos has been a simple idea in my head for a couple years now, so I'm really excited that it is going to become a reality. I have the story fleshed out a bit in my head, but I have yet to get it down in Scrivener as a workable outline. That's what I'm planning on using to get me through the next 8 days 15 hours!
